Vegan Holidays

The vegan restaurants around us are wonderful.  Susty’s is a GREAT little organic/vegan restaurant, Dover Natural makes good vegan/gluten free options, Flatbread’s vegan pizza provides a tasty option, and there are other places that make being a vegan easily doable in Seacoast New Hampshire.

However.  Sometimes a trip to a larger city is just want the Vegan needs- and for us we have Boston, MA or Portland, ME.

This week we took a spontaneous trip to Boston.  Kelsey and I, accompanied by fellow vegans Matt and Emily, decided to do a hop of major vegan restaurants in and around Boston.  We figured out the bike rental service that dots the city and toured around.

First up- one of the newest additions- Veggie Galaxy.

For those of you who aren’t vegan, its hard to describe how exciting it is to see a full (normal sized) menu that is entirely vegan possible.  They do tailor to the vegetarian crowd too for those who can’t seem to do without eggs and milk- but everything I’ve eaten on the menu is so incredibly good, I honestly don’t think most would miss it.

This was my mushroom/chick pea burger, garnished with a large onion ring, and served with a red coleslaw.

Emily and Matt are both quite enamored with the eggs benedict.  How in the world do they get their eggs to resemble, well, eggs?

No matter how full you are after eating their healthy portions (pun intended), it is absolutely required to try their coconut milk shakes!

To top off the food filled day, we shared a buffalo chicken pizza from Piece o’ Pie.  Fluffy crust, delicious sauce, good portions of Daiya Cheese and buffalo seitan “chicken” = best pizza I’ve had since being vegan.  Unfortunately they didn’t have a gluten free option, so Kelsey went next door to The Grasshopper, which this time around didn’t really impress her with their option, but we have had good experiences there in the past (especially their buffets!)

We missed out on the Red Lentil, unfortunately, but even vegans have to consider gluttony.

The day was filled with great food, lots of laughs, and a tad too much sun.
